About our cuts. We cut on a professional panel saw and we cut square and clean, but this is jobsite accuracy, not cabinet-shop accuracy. Expect up to about 1/16 in of variance, sometimes a bit more on a long rip. That is fine for shelves, backing, panels, underlayment and most apartment projects. If your job needs exact fractional tolerances, like a drawer box or an inset door, order your piece slightly oversize and do the final trim yourself.

We stock plywood and sheet goods in full 4 ft x 8 ft sheets and cut them down to whatever you need, and we cut MDF and hardboard to size too. Birch and CDX can be ordered cut to size and priced by the square foot. Masonite and Luan are sold by the sheet plus a flat $7 per finished piece we cut.

Birch vs CDX, and Which Sheet to Choose
Two of our most popular sheets are built for very different jobs:
- CDX plywood is construction-grade sheathing. It is rougher, with knots and patches, and built to be strong and economical, not pretty. Use it for subfloors, hidden shelving, backing, jigs, and anything that gets painted or covered.
- Birch plywood has smooth hardwood face veneers that sand clean and take paint or stain evenly. It is the choice for furniture, cabinet faces, bookshelves, and any finished, visible surface. Priced by the square foot and cut to size.
- 1/4 in Luan is a thin, smooth-faced plywood for underlayment and panel backs. Sold by the full sheet, and we cut it down for you at $7 a piece.
- Masonite hardboard is a dense, very smooth panel for door skins, templates, backing, and display. Sold by the full sheet, and we cut it down for you at $7 a piece.
Rule of thumb: if the wood will show, go birch; if it is structural or hidden, CDX does the job for less.

How accurate are your cuts?
We cut on a professional panel saw and we cut square and clean, but this is jobsite accuracy, not cabinet-shop accuracy. Expect up to about 1/16 in of variance, sometimes a bit more on a long rip. What is the difference between a rip cut and a cross cut?
A rip cut runs the long way down a sheet or board, along the grain. A cross cut runs across it. On a 4 x 8 sheet a rip is the full 8 foot pass, which is why long narrow strips take more material and more time than their square footage suggests. We do both on the panel saw.
How much does custom wood cutting cost?

Can I order cut-to-size plywood online?

Birch and CDX plywood are priced by the square foot, billed rounded up to the whole square foot, from $3.99 per square foot for 1/2 in CDX to $9.99 per square foot for 3/4 in birch. Masonite hardboard and Luan are sold by the full sheet plus a flat $7 per finished piece we cut, and the builder shows you how the sheet gets cut up. Long narrow strips, under 12 in on the short side and over 48 in on the long side, are quoted by hand rather than through the cart, because the rip runs the full length of the sheet.
