Returns & Refunds

At New York Paint & Hardware we want you to be happy with every purchase. If something is not right, here is exactly how returns work.

30-day return window

You may return most items within 30 days of purchase or delivery. Items must be unused, in their original packaging, and accompanied by your receipt or proof of purchase. There is no restocking fee.

How to return

  • In store, free. Bring the item and your receipt to 1668 1st Ave, New York, NY 10128. This is the fastest option and it costs you nothing.
  • By mail. Call 212-249-1614 or use the contact form first so we can authorize the return. Approved returns are sent to: New York Paint & Hardware, Returns, 1668 1st Ave, New York, NY 10128. Return shipping is paid by the customer, except when the item arrived damaged or defective or we sent the wrong item, in which case we cover it. Items sent back without authorization cannot be accepted.

Refunds

For mailed returns, once we receive and inspect the item we issue the refund to your original payment method within 5 to 10 business days and email you when it is processed. If more than 15 business days have passed since we approved your return, please call us at 212-249-1614.

Damaged or incorrect items

Please inspect your order when it arrives. If anything is damaged, defective, or not what you ordered, contact us within 7 days with a photo and we will make it right with a replacement or a full refund, return shipping included.

Exchanges

The fastest way to exchange something is to bring it back to the store and pick up the replacement in the same visit. For mailed orders, return the original item and place a new order for the one you want.

Final sale, not returnable

Because they are mixed, cut, or made to order, or for safety reasons, the following are not returnable:

  • Custom-tinted and color-matched paint, including colors matched from other brands
  • Cut-to-size lumber, plywood, and other custom-cut items
  • Clearance and final-sale items
  • Opened hazardous materials such as solvents and chemicals
  • Gift cards
